Caring for Kids
This mission provides weekend snack bags for Harrisburg school age children in need. Snack bags are prepared periodically in the church Wesley Center and delivered each week to the Harrisburg schools for distribution to food insecure children. Numbers of snack bags needed are provided by teachers employed by the Harrisburg schools. During the summer break, snack bags and a donated book are handed out at the summer lunch program. This program receives monetary and volunteer support from the community.
Bear Ministry
Colorful fabric bears with painted faces are handmade by our church volunteers and delivered as a ministry to children. The bears are distributed through local law enforcement, ambulance, hospital, and doctor’s offices.
Easter Carnival
Each year, an Easter Carnival is held for preschool and elementary aged children. This free event is held before the Easter Egg Hunt on the Saturday morning before Easter (in the church Wesley Center or outdoors in the parking area, depending on the weather). Booths include face painting, cupcake walk, balloon creations, egg races, corn hole, egg toss, and other fun activities for children.
Harrisburg High School Homecoming Hospitality
Tents and chairs are set up on the church lawn for community use by anyone attending the Harrisburg High School Homecoming parade. Popcorn and cold bottled water are available free in church lawn during the parade.
Trick or Treat
Held on the same night and at the same time as Harrisburg Trick or Treat. Volunteers dress up in costumes, decorate tables, and give away treats to children. This event is sometimes held indoors in the church Wesley Center and sometimes held outdoors on the church parking lot.
Neighborhood Ministry
Periodically distribute Blessing Bags to the doorsteps of neighborhoods near Harrisburg First United Methodist Church’s location. Neighborhood Block Parties are planned from time to time as part of this Ministry.
